Penang Full Day Private Tour

Experience this unique World Heritage Site at your own speed and thanks to your absolute freedom, choose the sites you want to visit!

Welcome to Penang! As your cruise arrives in the historic Georgetown, you will be transported back in time and find yourself in a stunning British colonial port city from 1840s. Georgetown is recognized by UNESCO World Heritage title for being an exceptional example of a multicultural trading town in Southeast Asia, forged from the mercantile and civilization exchanges of Malay, Chinese, Indian and European influences and features the most and the best restored Malaysian shophouses in the country. Penang is also crowned as the food capital of Malaysia, so be prepared to eat a lot! Your day in Penang focuses on getting to know more of the colonial heritage of the city while enjoying some local delicacies. Your guide will be waiting for you at the Cruise Terminal, and you will be driven to the magnificent Kek Lok Si Temple, one of Southeast Asia's largest and most awe-inspiring Buddhist temples. You'll have the chance to explore the temple's various halls, gardens, and prayer areas. Be sure to take your time to soak in the peaceful atmosphere and admire the intricate details of the temple's architecture. Make sure you don't leave the temple without leaving your wishing ribbons on one of the trees. (Some parts of the complex require entrance fees (a few ringgits only) which is paid on spot). Your Georgetown adventure continues, this time on foot! First explore one of the Clan Jetties, which are unique waterfront communities built on stilts along the coast. Each jetty is named after a Chinese clan that settled there in the 19th century when Chinese immigrants came to Penang and built homes on stilts as this was the cheapest options for them to live. Today, the Clan Jetties offer a glimpse into the traditional lifestyle of these communities. On your walking tour you inside the World Heritage Zone, you will visit some of the most important sights and temples, such as the Khoo Kongsi clan temple, Kapitan Keling Mosque among others. Khoo Kongsi is a masterpiece of Chinese architecture and cannot be missed. With the guidance of your guide, you will explore the temple and its surrounding and you will learn about the powerful Clans (families) that once “ruled” the trade industry here in Penang. Following the visit, enjoy some free time in the area and take selfies with the famous Penang street arts that can be found all around Armenian Street. In 2012, these 3-dimensional street arts put Penang back on the tourist map and made one of the most popular tourist attractions in Malaysia. Later on, you'll learn about the social and cultural impact of opium on the local population and how it affected the whole region while you explore the old neighborhoods. Moreover, as Georgetown is often considered the birthplace of hawker food in Malaysia, you cannot miss understanding how the mother of street food was born here. You will get the chance to taste some local delicacies (nasi kandar). Then, we will pay a visit at the Goddess of Mercy temple, the oldest Taoist temple on the island. The temple's architecture is a testament to traditional Chinese design and craftsmanship. Observing temple-goers in prayer and rituals, you can gain insights into Chinese religious and spiritual practices. You may witness offerings, incense burning, and the lighting of candles, all integral parts of traditional worship. All of those will be explained to you by your local guide, as you will start understanding the Chinese beliefs in afterlife. You will get the chance to visit a joss paper shop and light your own joss stick at the temple. Towards the end of your tour, you'll discover some old British buildings like St. George's Anglican Church, the High Court, and the Penang State Museum and Art Gallery. After Before you head back to the Cruise Terminal, enjoy some free time at the Padang (the old main square of Georgetown) with the City and Town Halls on one side and Fort Cornwallis on the other side. The fort is shaped like a star and holds historical importance as it was the site where the British and Sir Francis Light first landed in Penang and opened their first colony that soon became the capital of the Straights Settlements before Singapore took over its place. As your arrive back at the Cruise Terminal, look back on your amazing trip through Georgetown's mix of cultures and history, and it is time to say goodbye to the lovely streets and famous places you've seen. As you leave, we hope the memories of Georgetown's diverse heritage and delicious food stick with you. Maybe you'll come back and enjoy Penang's charm again someday.
